With a proposed starting date in January, the first 12 months of community college for first-time students may be free with the start of the newly signed California College Promise.
Assembly Bill 19, proposed by Assemblyman Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) and also known as the California College Promise program, was signed by Gov. Jerry Brown Oct. 13. Once this bill goes into action, full-time, first-time community college students will be able to attend their local community college free for the first year.
