Maine Community Colleges Announce $60 Million Investment in Workforce Training

The Maine Community College System on Tuesday announced a $60 million investment to expand workforce training as the state continues to deal with a workforce shortage.

The community college system received a $15.5 million grant from the Harold Alfond Foundation that will be combined with $35 million in federal pandemic relief funds allocated through Gov. Janet Mills’ Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan and $10 million in matching funds from the private sector.

The money will be used for low- or no-cost workforce training to more than 24,000 front-line Maine workers over the next four years, officials said.
