New Workforce Development Program at Onondaga Community College Helps Individuals Prepare for a new Career

SUNY Onondaga Community College is offering a new workforce development program which helps those interested in pursuing a career in trade with workforce development opportunities and short term hands-on training that will help prepare them for a new career.

The new program will train students for positions that are in high demand in Syracuse and works with local employers to create career training programs that produce skilled workers.

“The program is designed to be streamlined, come in, leave with a job,” Mike Metzgar, associate vice president for economic and workforce development told Nexstar station WSYR NewsChannel9.

The Workforce Development program isn’t completed until the individual enrolled receives a job, Metzgar added.

The careers available under the program include Medical Assistant, Medical Billing Specialist, Phlebotomist, Manufacturing, Line Cook and Warehouse Operator.

“While our programs prepare you for a new career, they also serve as Onondaga Community College’s contribution to the local economy, by addressing the needs of the labor market,” the program website said.
