Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam announced that a record number of high school seniors from the class of 2017 applied for the Tennessee Promise scholarship and mentor program and emphasized the need for 9,000 mentors to aid with the students’ transition.
After the deadline, which passed on Nov. 1 this year, a total of 60,780 high school seniors applied as compared to the 59,621 applicants last year and the 58,286 applicants in 2014.
