MIDDLETOWN — Middlesex Community College is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and its leaders are using the milestone as an occasion to refocus on the things that have made the institution a success for its students.
The college will emphasize civic engagement, citizenship and improving the local communities in its programs and events and by encouraging the students and faculty to get involved in local organizations.
“I was in Washington [D.C.] for a conference and I learned a new word, intersectionality, how things get together,” said college President Anna Wasescha. “For colleges in the next 50 years we have to think about the intersectionality between training for meaningful lives of work, citizenship and I think the other piece of it is sustainability.”
