At the May 15 Chabot-Las Positas Community College District (CLPCCD) Board meeting, representatives from Chabot’s Classified Senate and Student Senate both voiced concern about the implications of Governor Jerry Brown’s proposed new funding formula for community colleges. Zaheer Ebtikar, the Chabot Student Senate President, advocated against implementation of the new model, citing a financial burden on the district. Noell Adams, Chabot Classified Senate President, similarly voiced concern on behalf of the college’s classified employees.
The Governor’s January budget proposal and May revise change the apportionment funding formula for community colleges from the current model based almost exclusively on enrollment to one where 60% of the funding is based on enrollment in general, 20% is based on the enrollment of low-income students specifically, and 20% on degrees and certificates awarded.
