IL Community College Board Looks to Decrease Tech Worker Shortage Through Apprenticeships

It’s National Apprenticeship Week and the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) is highlighting the need for tech workers in Illinois through their Customized Apprenticeship Program-Information Technology, or CAP-IT.

With the world shifting heavily online over the past two years, the need for information technology (IT) workers in Illinois has exploded. That’s why the community college board has the federally-funded apprenticeship program to get students paid and trained while they complete their degree.

“They can enter directly into an apprenticeship program which is where you go to work, and you’re getting credit, and you’re on the job learning. Through this program you can also enter a pre-apprenticeship,” ICCB Executive Director Dr. Brian Durham said.
